Aurora's 1st Surgery 2/5/10

Update on Ellingsworth
Another one of our dogs, Ellingsworth, another adult black lab, was found to have a roaming patella. He had surgery yesterday on his knee and is at home recovering. This surgery cost the rescue $900.
Update on Aurora
Aurora saw the vet on Monday. She went in to be sedated so that they could take better x-rays of her knees since they had a hard time since she was in so much pain. If they were tears, they were going to do surgery on the first leg right away. Well...there was a tear in the left hind leg. The right knee has arthritis as well and the hip doesn't sit correctly in the hip socket. The first thing that will be done is surgery on the right knee. The left knee and hip will follow. Aurora's vet bills will now run at minimum $3500. She is such a sweet girl. We really need donations for this girl in order to get her all of the surgeries she needs.
You can see pictures of Aurora here http://s291.photobucket.com/albums/ll314/christinemiller28/Aurora/ Please help her. Update on Rusty
Here is a progress report from Rusty's foster mom:
Rusty is improving every day. And, today, for the very first time, he actually wanted to play with a toy. We were so tickled by it that I just had to take a video. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CU46IcRdY0 The red furry bone was his Xmas present, and I figured he'd never really be able to play with it. Boy was I wrong! http://picasaweb.google.com/deanna.schneider/20091230# Holiday had her babies!
We have been blessed with 5 puppies for Holiday:) 3 boys and 2 girls.

JRs Pups N Stuff 4630 N. 135th St. Brookfield, WI 53005 The Little Rescue with the Big Heart
JRs Pups N Stuff has always prided themselves on providing excellent care to their foster dogs and taking in dogs knowing they'd need extra vet care like heartworm positive dogs, dogs with eye problems or torn ACLs. Currently, the vetting bills have become overwhelming and this little rescue could use some big help.
Here are some of the dogs that are in need of vet care or we have given vet care to, but the vet bills are still outstanding: Rusty â?? dental bill of $733. He needed all but his canines removed, gums sewn together and has soft bones in his month. They believe this is all a source of poor nutrition. He is a happy go lucky little guy who does great with kids, cats and other dogs. He just wants to be loved. The periodontal infection caused URI and other issues to develop which are turning around on the medications (thatâ??s in addition to the dental bill!) He will require a special diet Cinnamon â?? died of parvo and we are now running supportive care on her two litter mates. We have not received the final bill, but it is estimated at $2k. Littermates have developed URI and are on continued medications and hopefully will not contract the virus as well Paul â?? died at just 12 weeks old after a valiant battle of anemia caused by a liver shunt. He received multiple transfusions and medications and underwent surgery to tie off the shunt. Sadly it was internal to the liver and the efforts of the doctors failed. Have not received that final bill but is estimated at $3200 Aurora â?? 2 year old black lab that came from KY with a limp. The vet believes that she has a torn ACL and we will be doing x-rays which will more than likely be followed by ACL surgery. She also does have the beginning stages of arthritis and will need to be on Cosequin or a similar supplement for her life. Snowmanâ??s littermate developed parvo and he appears to be heading down this path. He will need supportive care and medications for several days and may end up hospitalized. Lola and Sanford â?? so far their bills are over 3K. They were born with heart and lung problems which killed their siblings. These two fighters have had ultra sounds and multiple tests to monitor them through their grown. Sanford has outgrown his and is considered 100% healthy. Lolabug is still fighting her lung issues, although her heart is now fine. She will require some additional testing and possible surgery. This group had ecoli in their lungs, pneumonia and was compounded by heart problems that couldnâ??t be diagnosed until after the other issues cleared. Their mother had HW as well and was treated. Blanco â?? turned down from his neuter due to a grade 4 heart murmur. He will require diagnostic testing to identify the issue and determine if it is correctable. Chilli has a grade 3 heart murmur and a dentalâ?¦required special medications and several xrays and monitoring to ensure heart was healthy enough for her to be adopted. Bear â?? double eye surgery â?? cost $600 Razoul â?? born blind in one eye requiring an eye to be removedâ?¦anticipated cost of $750 Bella â?? just had treatment, Chevy having treatment and Gloria just passed her 5 weeks post treatment for heartworm. As a rescue we have treated over 50 HW+ dogs. The costs for vetting, care and treatment of a HW+ dog averages $600 depending on other health situations, length of time, in our care, severity of disease, etc. We have never lost one! We have spent over $25K caring for these animals over the past 3 years. Lucky â?? 5 yr old poodle developing cataracs and will likely require surgery to spare his vision. His teeth are also in fairly bad shape and he is likely to require a dental. Holliday â?? arrived pregnant and scaredâ?¦.no idea what type of care she will need. Many of our dogs (over 30) have received dentals over the years to assist in preventing periodontal diseases and other diseases associated with it. We have had luxating patellas repaired on multiple dogs as well as hip displaysiaâ?¦the funds are running out. |
